Does this sound like where you're at?
You feel reactive, on edge, or like you can't quite let things go, even when you want to
Certain places, people, or moments bring things back before you've had a chance to brace for it
You've noticed yourself avoiding things that used to feel ordinary
You don't have to have all the answers before your first session — just a willingness to show up.
HOW WE CAN HELP
What EMDR & trauma-informed therapy actually involves
1
A safe first conversation
Before any processing work begins, we take time to understand your history and what safety looks like for you. Nothing happens before you’re ready.
2
EMDR, explained simply
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, evidence-based approach that supports the brain in processing distressing memories. We’ll explain exactly what a session involves before you start.
3
Support at your own pace
Some people notice shifts gradually, others more quickly — everyone’s process is different. Your psychologist will check in regularly and adjust pace with you, not for you.
“Through insight we can understand ourselves, who we are within our system, our society, our culture, our family.”

What is EMDR and how does it work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based approach that supports the brain in processing distressing or traumatic memories. Your psychologist will walk you through exactly what’s involved before any processing work begins
Do I need a formal PTSD diagnosis to see someone for trauma?
No. Many people come to us feeling ‘reactive’ or unable to let things go, without ever using the word trauma themselves. You don’t need a diagnosis to start a conversation with one of our psychologists.
Is EMDR available via telehealth?
Yes, telehealth is available for clients across Australia, alongside face-to-face appointments at our Surrey Hills and Coburg North clinics.
Does Medicare cover these sessions?
Medicare rebates are available with a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. We’re also able to see NDIS self-managed and plan-managed participants.
How many sessions does trauma-informed therapy usually take?
This varies from person to person and depends on your history and goals — your psychologist will discuss a suggested approach with you directly rather than a fixed number up front.
What if I'm not sure I'm ready to talk about it yet?
That’s completely normal, and it’s exactly what the free intake call is for — a low-pressure conversation, not a therapy session, so you can ask questions first.

Terms & Conditions
The free 10-minute intake call is available to new clients only, one per person, subject to practitioner availability, and offered on an ongoing basis (no set expiry). It is a brief conversation to see whether Insightful Living Co. is the right fit for you and to answer practical questions (fees, Medicare rebates, availability) — it is not a therapy session, does not involve clinical assessment or advice, and does not guarantee an ongoing appointment. Standard consultation fees and Medicare rebate rules apply to all booked appointments following the intake call.
